Whether you are on campus or online, showing up and participating makes a big difference. If you need to miss class, communicate early and stay on track.

In Class (On Campus or Online)

• Be present, prepared, and on time
• Put distractions (like your phone) away
• Listen actively and participate in discussions
• Ask questions and connect with your classmates and instructor
• Use class time for learning 鈥� not catching up on homework
• Online? Check announcements and discussion boards regularly

If You Need to Miss Class

• Read your syllabus to understand attendance and late work policies
• Email your instructor before class 鈥� include your name, course, and date(s) you鈥檒l miss
• Submit any work early when possible
• Don鈥檛 ask, 鈥淒id I miss anything?鈥� 鈥� ask a classmate for notes
• If you鈥檒l miss multiple days, contact your advisor for support

Stay ahead by planning smart and working intentionally.

• Use a calendar to organize due dates, weekly tasks, and long-term deadlines
• Break big projects into smaller steps and estimate how long each will take
• Follow the 2:1 rule: study 2 hours outside class for every 1 hour in class
• Read the syllabus carefully 鈥� know expectations, due dates, and late policies
• Start early and submit early to avoid last-minute issues or tech problems
• Communicate early if something impacts your ability to turn in work
• Attend Student Success Workshops to strengthen time management skills

Know how you learn best 鈥� and speak up when you need support. It鈥檚 a smart way to succeed in college.

• Study where you focus best 鈥� library, lounge, or kitchen table
• Study when you鈥檙e most alert: early bird or night owl?
• Prefer to learn with others? Start or join a study group
• What worked in high school may not work in college 鈥� adjust as needed
• Ask questions during or after class
• Visit your instructor during office hours or schedule a Zoom meeting
• Read instructor feedback to improve future work
• Attend a student success workshop to build better habits

• Get plenty of sleep and fresh air
• Stay hydrated
• Be sure to eat to fuel your body
• Stay connected with friends, family or pets
• Visit the Wellness Center for a workout

• Join clubs, sports, or campus events to connect with others

• In online classes, connect through discussion boards and group projects
